IP 10 Unit 6.1: Computers, Jobs and Workplace Skills

Computers, Jobs and Workplace Skills

At this point, we should have all spent some time using a word processor like Google Docs.

It may be pretty easy to figure out what you can do with an Information Processor in school. Generally, we all end up writing some kind of essay, paper or presentation for our teachers. While these are all good uses for these programs, they can still do a lot more.

When you start to dig into some of the advanced features of a program like Google Docs or Microsoft Word, you may begin to see some of the possibilities.

Once you have graduated, you may find yourself being asked to use Information Processing in new and different ways. If nothing else, you will probably want to use Google Docs to look for work by making resumes and cover letters.

Having said that, working with computers can mean a whole lot more than using Google Docs and Microsoft Office. In fact, there are a whole lot of jobs out there related to computers. In this unit, we are going to start exploring some of the options available to you. We are going to spend some time looking at some of the possible ways that technology will affect you in your work life.

First, we will look at why computers have become such an important part of our lives today.

Next, we'll look at some of the jobs related to technology and explore jobs related to the field.

Afterward, we will look at some important work-related skills to get you thinking about your work-life outside of high-school.

Finally, we will end up by creating two of the most important items related to your work-life: a cover letter and resume.
